Next Straw Bale- and Clay/Lime-Practice-Workshops 2026
27–30 October: Roof infill with straw bales in Regau, Upper Austria. The straw bales are lifted up on the roof by crane, where they are infilled between the rafters, trimmed with hedge trimmers or a grass trimmer, and clad with DHF boards. LINK to the Regau photo gallery
9–6 November (or up to 13 November): Clay plaster in the straw bale house in Regau, Upper Austria; 2nd week (9–13 Nov.): Fine plaster; followed by 16–27 Nov.: Clay (COB) floor with underfloor heating. LINK to the photo gallery of the project in Regau
Cost per workshop: €250/€50 per workshop for students and the unemployed (1 or 2 weeks), including meals and accommodation per person. Members receive a 10% discount; partners and friends who register together are eligible for the student rate of €50 per workshop. Free for STEPpers currently in training. Workshop 1: 20–24 July: Clay plaster in renovation projects (applied to brickwork or internal insulation made of straw and reed, softwood fibreboard and straw mats), 1130 Vienna
17–23 August: 7-day finishing workshop Fine clay plasters, decorative plasters, cob (sculptural, ornamental, pizza oven), tadelakt; 3720 Ravelsbach
14–25 September: Straw bale infill in the StrawHenge modular house and preparation for rendering (reed plaster, straw mat façade insulation). Conversion and extension of a farmhouse in Regau, Upper Austria, with wall and roof insulation using straw bales, including accommodation and meals at the farmhouse
28 September – 3 October: Clay plastering in a straw bale house (renovation and new build), accommodation and meals at the farmhouse in Regau
5–9 October and 19–30 October: Lime plaster workshop (on straw mat façades and straw walls/reeds) in Regau, Upper Austria
Fees: € 50/day, means for 3 days € 150, for 5 days € 250 inkl. food and accomodation per Person.
