StrawHenge modules
The idea is actually quite simple: If the stud construction is not erected on site, this has some (price) advantages, but of course also some disadvantages, which must be weighed up each time.
Advantages:
- Simpler horizontal timber frame construction
- Easier infill when lying down
- Compression of the straw bales with the head sill better than by hand
- Saves overnight accommodation and travel costs for employees
- StrawHenge: building only every 2nd module saves costs, of course, but is just as stable.
- The “gaps” between the modules (here 96x250cxm) are filled on site (workshop or self-assembly) or are used for windows and doors.
- Quick assembly on site in 3-4 days
- StrawHenge is suitable for ready-made modules from Lorenz systems (DD34)
Disadvantages:
- One module weighs approx. 200 kg when filled, handling (stacking, carrying, forklift truck, loading) is more complex, but can generally be handled by 4 employees.
- Temporary storage and transportation
- Assembly only possible with a crane
- It should not rain during assembly (heavy rain), as the modules with the exposed straw bales can only tolerate rain to a limited extent (more when standing, less when lying down). It is therefore advisable to make one side (the top side) rainproof (DWD, DHF, plastic sheeting with foil or kraft paper)
- The StrawHenge system is more complicated for straw bale roof trusses.
